It is always the light that fascinates me. The change of light on colour can evoke such feelings from terror to absolute bliss. A day can change from dark clouds, dark shadows and angry seas to a sunfilled sky and bright cheery colours that lift the spirits.

I paint seascapes and landscapes plein air or I work from sketches and photos often taken in a boat either in gouache or graphite and I will use them in my studio as reference for a larger oil painting.

The majority of my seascapes are of the South Hams in Devon or the Solent but especially Salcombe. Salcombe is a never-ending inspiration as the light and subject matter is always changing through the seasons. I have had a studio there for the past 25 years.

My other passion apart from the sea is the equestrian scene. I have painted horses for many years and owned and ridden many, but now I just admire and sketch! I paint portraits, but mainly for fun but I have had a few commissions over the years.

I studied Graphic Design at St Martins School of Art in the late 60s, but I have always painted since a young child. I have exhibited Nationally on many occasions with the RA, NEAC, ROI, SWA, SEA, RSMA and others.

After College I worked as an illustrator and graphic designer in publishing and advertising. I have painted full time since the early 1980s. My paintings have been reproduced as magazine covers (Country Life) as greeting cards, book covers, cards and on calendars.

Most of my work can be seen on the Bridgeman Art Library who licence my secondary copywrite in London, New York, Berlin and Paris. I produce limited edition prints and cards of my own and they can be viewed on the Limited Edition Prints section on this website.
